On December 17, 2021, UPMC Harrisburg achieved Magnet® recognition for the fourth time, an accomplishment realized by less than 2% of hospitals nationwide. Starting at the top and moving clockwise are Jeremy Clarke, Michele Goss, Christie Muza, Jennifer Gutshall and Kathleen Hogan Flinn.
Magnet®
Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) represents the highest standard of excellence in patient care for hospitals. It is considered the gold standard in nursing. Less than 9% of hospitals have achieved Magnet® accreditation, and a smaller percentage have realized this prestigious designation more than once.
The Magnet Recognition Program® provides a roadmap to nursing excellence, which benefits the entire organization. To nurses, Magnet® recognition means education and development through every career stage, which leads to greater autonomy at the bedside. To patients, it means the very best care, delivered by nurses who are supported to be the very best that they can be.
The following UPMC hospitals have received Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC):
UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh
UPMC Community Osteopathic
UPMC Hamot
UPMC Harrisburg
UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital
UPMC Passavant
UPMC Presbyterian
UPMC Shadyside
UPMC St. Margaret
UPMC West Shore

Dominique Ferrier MSN, RN, NE-BC, Director of Capacity and Support Services at UPMC Passavant receives the Leading with Wisdom Award at the 2021 Nurses Week Systemwide Celebration.
Nursing Achievements
True to lifelong learning, our nurses prove their commitment to excellence in patient care by earning advanced degrees and certifications. We share knowledge across the region, nation, and internationally through podium and poster presentations. UPMC nurses also demonstrate leadership as they hold board positions in professional organizations. Many of our nurses are recognized annually for their national and regional honors and awards, evidence-based practice, research studies, and grants.
We are proud to celebrate our nurses’ achievements in 2021.
